“I used a PBTS North American prototype unit on the Much Music Video Awards show this summer. This 22 camera high definition outdoor production entailed a complex set-up of cable runs to various shooting locations. One of our challenges was setting up a wireless track camera on a 500’ horizontal piece of truss on a downtown Toronto Street that was across the street from our building. The camera position was over 700’ from our TV mobile. We were able to use the PBTS to run a HD-SDI feed of the camera return using the LCD display for the camera remote operator, HDSDI program, back up HDSDI video output of the camera in case the wireless link failed, 4-wire intercom for the operator and embedded PGM audio. All with one SMPTE Hybrid cable. There are a lot of fiber multiplexer systems today but the PBTS is unique in its portability and connectivity. There was no need for SM or MM fiber with SC, ST or LC connectors; a hybrid camera cable is all that was required. The unit definitely worked for the application needed, I look forward to having the opportunity to maximize the potential use of the PBTS on future productions.”
